Welcome to Byamee Homeless Support

We increase awareness, we promote and we advocate for the safety and rights of service users to reduce homelessness and domestic violence within the Moree Plains Shire.

We maximise the support services for our community in reducing homelessness within our region.

In 1984, Byamee became Incorporated, and until 2002 operated within Moree providing a great service assisting those that suffered a reliance on alcohol.  In 2002 though, Byamee changed direction after consultation within the local community.  Byamee Proclaimed Place Incorporated is also a registered charity.  Byamee Proclaimed Place Incorporated amended its constitution through Fair Trading, and was successful in obtaining funds to assist the homeless and those at risk of homelessness within the Moree Plains Shire.

From 2002, Byamee Proclaimed Place has operated under the service name of Byamee Proclaimed Place INC.  Over the years the programs have grown and evolved to reflect the needs of the community and offer the best possible results for those using the service.  Services such as the Inspire the Desire Experience program and Supportive Tenancy Living Skills program offer participants a helping hand forward in their paths and reduce the chances of repeat episodes of homelessness.

In January 2012 Byamee Proclaimed Place commenced operating its second service, the Moree Aboriginal Women’s Housing Support Service.  This service runs hand in hand with Byamee Proclaimed Place INC with a focus on Aboriginal women or women with Aboriginal children.  In its short time of running it has already produced a number of great stories of participants being able to help themselves improve their situation with assistance supplied through the program.

Throughout the end of 2013 and during 2014 Byamee formed a partnership with Moree Women’s Refuge Ngala House Inc. and Moree Family Support Inc. to tender under the Going Home Staying Home reform process.  These partnerships created Moree Area Homelessness Services (MAHS) together the three organisations continue to work with the community to establish a safe living environment for all that seek assistance.
